Lab Supervisor


Under the general direction of the Brand Manager, the purpose of the position is to prepare eyeglass wear to patients and customers. Colleagues in this classification provide technical work. The position is responsible for producing customized eyeglass wear, make repairs of eyeglass wear,  provide minor equipment maintenance, troubleshooting of products, and dispensing eyewear to patients. Performs related work as directed. The lab technician will be required to perform equipment maintenance in accordance with the company's maintenance program. The lab technician will be required to hit delivery times for “Now Service”, “24-Hour” and “Special Order (Ready When Promised)” jobs.

A typical day for a Lab Supervisor would consist of opening & closing the lab. During business hours would help ensure all timed jobs are being manufactured correctly while also ensuring that all orders are being tracked in cases where the job is not being completed in-house. The Lab Supervisor would communicate with the retail staff multiple times during the day to communicate the progress of jobs. The Lab Supervisor is responsible for maintaining job production and is expected to learn and run various machines. The Lab Supervisor will be required to learn and perform equipment maintenance per the company's daily, weekly & monthly schedules as well as perform non-routine repairs on lab equipment. The Lab Supervisor will be required to hit delivery times for “Now Service”, “24-Hour” and “Special Order (Ready When Promised)” jobs.


  • Production of eyewear while the patient waits  in accordance with or “Now” job policy
  • Dispensing of eyewear to patients including troubleshooting and adjustment
  • Receiving lenses
  • Properly processing and documenting all jobs in the Retail Lab Software system
  • Coordinates lab and store objectives and establishes daily goals with leaders.
  • Maintain quality control; identify recurring errors and develop solutions to eliminate errors.
  • Maintains a steady workflow to coincide with delivery time commitments to patients (Now Service, Ready When Promised).
  • Ensures special orders are completed daily; ensure replenishment subbing lenses to reduce special orders when necessary.
  • Reviews and approves all invoices and packing slips for inventory received.
  • Maintains all equipment; schedule for repair and maintenance as required.
  • Follows OSHA and safety requirements; maintains OSHA compliance and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets).
  • Ensures lab is clean and organized; performs housekeeping duties as necessary.


Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; supplemented by six (6) months experience optical sales or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word, Google Docs, etc.
